terms & conditions

Mentoring can be a fun, powerful, and effective way to break through problems, bring clarity to areas which you are unsure about, and have a sounding board or second opinion. It is usually an informal process, in the form of a conversation or chat. The points below are a bit formally put, but that is just to ensure the safety of mentor and client, and to manage expectations on both sides. This is all very much common sense and standard practice. You don't have to wear fancy dress on Tuesdays. :)

About advice given in the mentoring session:

1. All advice given is a recommendation only.
2. All communications are confidential, unless in the unlikely event any information shared is cause for concern and potentially breeching legal boundaries.
3. No formal legal or financial advice is given, although considerations around legal requirements or pricing may be suggested.
4. The client is responsible for outlining the areas they wish to cover during the session, and to redirect the session during the time if they wish to go down a new course.
5. The mentor will respond with questions, suggestions, advice, and thoughts in order to address the areas outlined by the client.
6. The mentor is permitted to decline to answer on specific areas if a client is looking for advice to create a project which would be in competition with the mentor's interests (e.g. how to set up online mentoring for startups).
7. The client is permitted to decline to answer or talk any questions the mentor asks about. This should first be covered in the initial information given to the mentor.
8. The mentor does not have a responsibility to take written notes during the conversation, although they may note things and send occasional information to follow up (eg book recommendation). This is to enable the mentor to think ahead and respond, rather than note.
9. The client is responsibly for noting any information they find useful or relevant during the session. They are welcome to record the conversation for future reference, e.g. with a dictaphone or voice memo. Although the most value is through the course of the conversation with intermittent breakthroughs or tasks to put on a 'to do' list.

Payment terms & conditions

1. Once a session is paid for, the mentor will contact the client to arrange a convenient time and date.
2. Once a time and date is confirmed, there is a 24 hour notice period.
3. If you need to change the time & date you will need to give at least 24 hours notice.
4. If you are no longer able to make the confirmed booking with less than 24 hours notice, the session will still need to be paid for, however i
t is possible to transfer the booked hour to another person, and arrange any payment between yourselves.
5
. Once the hour is used, the hour is non-refundable, unless there is a complaint with the advice given. Should this be the case, you will need to write a written complaint explaining your reasoning. Please note point 4 in the section "About advice given in the mentoring session".
6. Once a session is paid for, it is valid for 1 year from purchase date.
7. Full refunds can be issued within 14 days of purchase, provided that the session has not been used.
8. After this time, the time paid can be transferred to another person, but it cannot be refunded.
9. The mentor has full right to refuse or refund a client before a mentoring session if the mentor does not wish to mentor them. See point 7 in the section "About advice given in the mentoring session". No reasons need to be given. A full refund will be made.
10. In case of illness of the mentor, any sessions will be rescheduled with as much notice as possible, and to be rescheduled as soon as possible.
11. Unfortunately, in case of illness of the client, if the booking is needed to be rescheduled with less than 24 hours notice, the client is liable to pay for the session, as is common practice across other professions, health & beauty bookings, etc.

Technical issues
1. Please ensure you have a good wifi or phone signal before your mentoring begins. Please ensure that you and the mentor have decided upon which method to communicate, and have exchanged numbers or added each other (e.g. on skype).
2. In the event of prolonged technical difficulties, the time lost during the session will be added on either directly after the session if convenient, or another time to be arranged.
3. If you plan to record the session, please arrange the setup in advance, to save time during the start of the call.
